Constellation Brands - Marvin Sands Performing Arts Center, Canandaigua

The RPO summer season at CMAC gets off to a swinging start with the Marcus Roberts Trio’s jazz take on Gershwin’s Piano Concerto in F. Bring your friends and family to hear this amazing fusion of classical and jazz.

Michael Butterman also leads the RPO in American classics, plus Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture; and then after the concert you can sit and watch the fireworks. Best of all, kids 12 and under are FREE on the lawn at CMAC!

The Marcus Roberts Trio—with Marcus Roberts on piano, bassist Roland Guerin, and drummer Jason Marsalis (younger brother of Wynton)—astounded audiences with their version of Gershwin’s concerto. Click here to watch a video of the trio performing with Seiji Ozawa and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.

Wednesday, July 7 at 7:30 pm
Performance Hall at Hochstein, 50 North Plymouth Avenue

Following up on last summer’s successful run of Mozart concerts, the RPO returns to the air-conditioned comfort of Hochstein for the Wednesday night Midsummer Classics series.

Norwegian guest conductor Arild Remmereit—who made a splash when he debuted with symphonies in Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Milan, Munich, and Vienna over five months in 2005—returns to the RPO for a program featuring Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6, "Pastoral." You’ll also hear music from Grieg’s beautiful Peer Gynt Suite and violinist Joan Kwuon performing Mozart’s brilliant Violin Concerto No. 5.

New this year: come early to each of the Hochstein concerts, and you can enjoy wine tastings at 6:00 pm and pre-concert chamber music at 6:30 pm featuring a small ensemble of RPO musicians. Holly Howell of the Democrat and Chronicle will be on hand for two of the tastings to answer questions about wine.

Plus, the Rochester Plaza Hotel, just a few blocks from Hochstein, is offering RPO patrons free on-site parking and a dining discount at the State Street Bar and Grill. Use this link for more information about all the pre-concert activities.

Other Midsummer Classics concerts include Christopher Seaman conducting the RPO in music of Mozart, Bach, and Beethoven with soloists Juliana Athayde and Erik Behr (July 7), and guest conductor Jahja Ling leading the RPO in music of Dvorak and Mozart with pianist Jessie Chang (August 4). Click here for more information on the full Midsummer Classics series.

Tickets for each concert are $30, or purchase the series and save up to 20%. Call 454-2100, or use this link to purchase online.

The RPO Summer Series is sponsored by The Elaine P. and Richard U. Wilson Foundation. Midsummer Classics is sponsored by Fiandach & Fiandach with media support from City Newspaper. Additional support from The Mozart Performance Fund: Sarah D. Atkinson, M.D. and Steven Hess.
