Wednesday, July 7 at 7:30 pm
Performance Hall at Hochstein, 50 North Plymouth Avenue

Following up on last summer’s successful run of Mozart concerts, the RPO returns to the air-conditioned comfort of Hochstein for the Wednesday night Midsummer Classics series.

Norwegian guest conductor Arild Remmereit made a splash here in Rochester a few years ago when he stepped in at the last minute for an ill guest conductor. The Democrat and Chronicle called him: "charismatic … commanding ... a top tier conductor."

He returns to the RPO for a program featuring Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6, "Pastoral." You’ll also hear music from Grieg’s beautiful Peer Gynt Suite and violinist Joan Kwuon performing Mozart’s brilliant Violin Concerto No. 5.

New this year: come early to each of the Hochstein concerts, and you can enjoy wine tastings at 6:00 pm and pre-concert chamber music at 6:30 pm featuring a small ensemble of RPO musicians. Among the featured wineries are Mayers Lake Ontario Winery Deer Run Winery, and Eagle Crest Vineyards.Holly Howell of the Democrat and Chronicle also will be on hand for two of the tastings to answer questions about wine.

Plus, the Rochester Plaza Hotel, just a few blocks from Hochstein, is offering RPO patrons free on-site parking and a dining discount at the State Street Bar and Grill. Use this link for more information about all the pre-concert activities.

Other Midsummer Classics concerts include Christopher Seaman conducting the RPO in music of Mozart, Bach, and Beethoven with soloists Juliana Athayde and Erik Behr (July 14), and guest conductor Jahja Ling leading the RPO in music of Dvorak and Mozart with pianist Jessie Chang (August 4). Click here for more information on the full Midsummer Classics series.

Tickets for each concert are $30, or purchase the series and save up to 20%. Call 454-2100, or use this link to purchase online.

The RPO Summer Series is sponsored by The Elaine P. and Richard U. Wilson Foundation. Midsummer Classics is sponsored by Fiandach & Fiandach with media support from City Newspaper. Additional support from The Mozart Performance Fund: Sarah D. Atkinson, M.D. and Steven Hess.
