Back by popular demand after sell-outs in 2009, the amazing aerial flyers, acrobats, contortionists, dancers, jugglers, balancers, and strongmen of Cirque de la Symphonie perform with the RPO for one evening only—but with ALL NEW performances customized for our own Jeff Tyzik and the RPO—including selections from Star Wars and Harry Potter!
 
Bring your entire family – kids 12 and under are FREE on the lawn at CMAC! Plus, there are monitors at CMAC so that when you’re on the lawn, you can have a "close up" view.

You’ll have a chance to watch many of the best Cirque artists in the world—including world record holders, gold-medal winners, and Olympians—as they literally drop into CMAC, right above the orchestra as it performs live. Click here to view a video of Cirque de la Symphonie.

Next Generation of Conductors Lead RPO at Eastman School

The RPO’s partnership with the Eastman School of Music expands this summer, with the RPO performing as part of the Eastman Summer Conducting Institute.
  
You’ll have a chance to experience some of the world's outstanding young conductors as up to five of the Summer Conducting Institute finalists lead the RPO. Eastman Professor of Conducting Neil Varon (pictured at left) leads the five-day session, which culminates in this special concert. As a concertgoer, you can vote for your favorite conductor of the evening.

Then, coming up on Saturday, August 7 at 7:30 pm at Hochstein, catch rising young piano stars at the Eastman Young Artists International Piano Competition Finals. For the first time in the history of this competition, the five finalists will play a concerto with your RPO—and then the winners of cash prizes and scholarships to the Eastman School will be announced! We welcome back guest conductor Jahja Ling, as he leads the RPO with an evening of Mozart and more! After the animated overture to The Marriage of Figaro, the brilliance of Mozart continues with pianist Jessie Chang and the sparkling Piano Concerto in G major. Maestro Ling brings our summer season to a close with a performance of Dvorak’s joyful Eighth Symphony.
 
Don’t forget: come early and you can enjoy wine tastings beginning at 6:00 pm and pre-concert chamber music at 6:30 pm. On August 4, a trio of RPO musicians will perform Spanish-flavored music by Williams, Granados, and Turina. Among the featured wineries are Mayers Lake Ontario Winery and Eagle Crest Vineyards. Holly Howell of the Democrat and Chronicle also will be on hand to answer questions about wine.

Plus, the Rochester Plaza Hotel—just a few blocks from Hochstein—is offering RPO patrons free on-site parking and a dining discount at the State Street Bar and Grill. Use this link for more information about all the pre-concert activities.
