RPO Receives $10K from Dominion Transmission for Sponsorship of Music Series at Camp Good Days

April 26, 2007

RPO ensembles to visit and perform at camp; campers and families to attend RPO summer concert

Rochester, NY – The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra will help Camp Good Days continue to live up to its name thanks to a $10,000 sponsorship from Dominion Transmission, Inc. on behalf of the Dominion Foundation.  “Dominion Music Series at Camp Good Days” will make it possible for four small ensembles from the RPO to visit the camp this summer, joining the campers for dinner followed by a 45-minute concert.  In addition, campers and their families will be able to attend one of this summer’s RPO performances at Constellation Brands - Marvin Sands Performing Arts Center (CMAC) in Canandaigua.

Dennis J. Sugumele, manager of Interstate Marketing for Dominion Transmission, Inc. presented the $10,000 check last Thursday to RPO’s Interim President and CEO Jan Newcomb, saying: “This program is meant as a collaboration between two key Rochester-area institutions.  We knew the RPO would provide a unique experience for the Camp Good Days campers and we are honored to help make this happen.”  Camp Good Days is dedicated to improving the quality of life for children, adults and families whose lives have been touched by cancer and other life challenges.

The RPO’s Director of Education and Outreach, Adrienne Valencia, has organized four different ensembles for participation in the “Dominion Music Series at Camp Good Days” located on Keuka Lake in Branchport, N.Y.:

  • Jazz combo on Wednesday, July 11
  • Woodwind quintet on Wednesday, July 25
  • Marimba band on Wednesday, August 8
  • String quartet on Tuesday, August 21

“This is a wonderful opportunity for our musicians to perform for children who could not otherwise attend a concert at one of our regular venues,” says Ms. Valencia.  “It is such a privilege to bring music to campers and their families during what can be a difficult and uncertain time in their lives.”

“Camp Good Days wants to thank Dominion Transmission and the RPO for providing such wonderful arts experiences for our campers and their families,” said Camp Director Shannon L. Grieve, who also was on hand for the check presentation.  “Organizations such as these really give our kids ‘Good Days and Special Times,’ and add a lot to our programs.”
