June 14, 2007

Flutist Carol Wincenc will perform at CMAC and Local Marimba Player Added to Temple B’rith Kodesh Concert

Rochester, NY – The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra is pleased to announce two additional soloists to its summer concert roster.  On Saturday, July 28 at 7:30 p.m., Buffalo native Carol Wincenc – one of today’s most acclaimed flutists – will be performing the RPO premiere of Lowell Liebermann’s Flute Concerto on the Constellation Brands Summer Series CMAC concert.  And, as a result of winning the Special Award in this year’s Rochester Philharmonic League’s Young Artist Audition, newly-graduated Brockport marimba player Michael Sparhuber will be the featured soloist on the Thursday, July 12 Temple B’rith Kodesh Benefit concert at 7:30 p.m., performing Fantasy on Japanese Woodprints by Alan Hovhaness.

Liebermann’s Flute Concerto will be featured in addition to Leonard Bernstein’s "Three Dance Episodes" from On the Town, Ravel’s Bolero and Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture with fireworks and cannons.  Michael Butterman, Principal Conductor for Education and Outreach (The Louise and Henry Epstein Family Chair) will conduct the concert, which concludes with a fireworks display. The RPO’s CMAC Summer Residency is sponsored by Canandaigua Bank & Trust. This program is sponsored by Strong Health with additional support provided by Ketmar Development.

Michael Butterman also will be conducting the Temple B’rith Kodesh Benefit concert, which includes works by Schubert, Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Johann Strauss, Jr., and film music by John Williams and Richard Rodgers.  General admission: $20/advance; $25/at the door; $15/student (with ID); $50/family (two adults plus any number of children 16 and under).  For ticket information, call Temple B’rith Kodesh at (585) 244-7060.
