Spend a Summer Night Cooling Off at the Eastman Theatre at a Free RPO Concert
July 03, 2007
Free concert is sponsored by the City of Rochester
Rochester, NY – Thanks to the sponsorship by the City of Rochester, the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra will present “American Favorites,” a free summer concert led by Principal Conductor for Education and Outreach Michael Butterman (The Louise and Henry Epstein Family Chair) at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 15 at the Eastman Theatre.
Enticing summer fare includes George Gershwin’s “Overture” from Crazy for You followed by Scott Joplin’s Ragtime Dance and Duke Ellington’s Ellington Fantasy. Adding an additional spark to the program are original compositions and arrangements by the RPO’s Principal Pops conductor Jeff Tyzik: A Call to Worship (from Pleasant Valley Suite), A Blast from the Past and Great Westerns Suite. The nostalgic sounds of Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Paper Moon and The Best of the Beatles will be followed by the patriotic music of The American Frontier, Armed Forces Salute and finally The Battle Hymn of the Republic.
Now in its 84th season, the RPO inspires and enriches the community through the art of music. The Orchestra is passionately dedicated to outstanding musical performance at the highest artistic levels, and has a unique tradition of musical versatility, commitment to music education in the broadest sense and a deep and enduring engagement with the community. The RPO has been honored with the New York State Governor’s Arts Award, and two recent ASCAP awards for adventurous programming.
