RPO Ready for a Home-Run with Guest Narrator Tony Infantino at Frontier Field Concert

July 13, 2007

Special guest radio personality Tony Infantino steps up to the plate to narrate “Casey at the Bat”

Rochester, NY – This year’s Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra concert on Friday, July 27 after the Red Wings game at Frontier Field is ready to hit a musical home-run with special guest and radio personality Tony Infantino, WARM 101.3 morning co-host (with Dee Alexander).   Making his RPO debut under the direction of Principal Conductor for Education and Outreach Michael Butterman (The Louis and Henry Epstein Family Chair), Tony will be narrating the musical version of the famous baseball poem, Casey at the Bat.

Immediately following the game (at approximately 8:30 p.m.), Butterman will open the concert with John Phillip Sousa’s The National Game March. Tony will step up to the podium to narrate the 1976 musical version by Randol Alan Bass of the classic 1888 baseball poem Casey at the Bat,  which tells the tale of an overconfident baseball player whose arrogance proves to be his downfall.

“I’m a die-hard baseball fan,” says Tony, “so I’m really looking forward to doing this piece with the RPO at Frontier Field.  To me, Casey at the Bat is the ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas of baseball.”  Tony has worked in broadcasting in his Rochester hometown since 1977, and his popularity as co-host of WARM radio’s “Tony and Dee in the Morning” has made him a household name.  A graduate of Gates-Chili High School, Tony lends his celebrity to numerous local fundraisers, and is co-founder of the Tony and Dee Spirit Fund, a charity that helps children in the Rochester area reach their goals.

The rest of the RPO concert features a selection of music of The Beatles, Riverdance and American patriotic favorites.  A fireworks display following the concert rounds out the evening.  The concert is free, thanks to sponsorship by Monroe County.

Now in its 84th season, the RPO inspires and enriches the community through the art of music.  The Orchestra is passionately dedicated to outstanding musical performance at the highest artistic levels, and has a unique tradition of musical versatility, commitment to music education in the broadest sense and a deep and enduring engagement with the community.  The RPO has been honored with the New York State Governor’s Arts Award, and two recent ASCAP awards for adventurous programming.
