RPO Announces Return to Vail in 2008

August 03, 2007

Rochester, NY – In June 2008, the Rochester Philharmonic will return for another year as one of the resident orchestras at Colorado’s Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival.  “The RPO is a very special and excellent orchestra and we are honored and proud to again make it a part of the Bravo Festival,” said John Giovando, the Festival’s Executive Director.  The 2007 season was its most ambitious yet, with the RPO, The Philadelphia Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic as the three resident orchestras.

The 2008 season will mark the 17th year of the RPO’s residency at the Festival.  From June 27 to July 4, the Orchestra once again will be performing six concerts featuring a combination of classical and pops programming.  Specific repertoire and soloists are yet to be determined, but RPO Music Director Christopher Seaman and Principal Pops Conductor Jeff Tyzik will be returning to the podium.  “We are delighted to have been invited to continue our summer residency at the Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival,” said RPO Music Director Christopher Seaman.  “Being featured with The Philadelphia Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic is a great testimony to how well we are perceived, in addition to helping achieve our ongoing goal of national recognition.  Vail is an international festival whose discriminating audience has taken us into its heart and really understands and appreciates the quality of the RPO.”
Through world-class performances, dedicated leadership and generous support from the community, the Festival has grown from a handful of attendees to an annual audience of more than 60,000.  More than 50 acclaimed soloists visit the Vail Valley to perform in chamber ensembles and as soloists with resident orchestras.  The Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival is the only festival to host three world-class orchestras in residence.
Celebrating its 85th season in 2007-08, the RPO inspires and enriches the community through the art of music.  The Orchestra is passionately dedicated to outstanding musical performance at the highest artistic levels, and has a unique tradition of musical versatility, commitment to music education in the broadest sense and a deep and enduring engagement with the community.  The RPO has been honored with the New York State Governor’s Arts Award, and two recent ASCAP awards for adventurous programming.  RPO performances are made possible in part with grants from the National Endowment for the Arts; the New York State Council on the Arts, a State Agency; the State of New York; Monroe County; the City of Rochester; and American Airlines, the official airline of the RPO.
