RPO's Gershwin Back in Top 5 on Billboard
August 23, 2007
Rochester, NY – The Rochester Philharmonic’s hugely successful Gershwin CD is back in the top five as it celebrates a dozen weeks on Billboard’s Top Classical Chart, coming in today at number four – up from last week’s number seven position. So far, its all-time high was number three for the week charting on August 9; the recording has maintained its Top 10 status for eight weeks. It also is one of only three in the top 10 that can boast the greatest airplay and sales gains this week.
Pianist Jon Nakamatsu will be featured with the RPO in selections from the Gershwin recording on the Orchestra’s May 9 and 10 WPOP concert led by Principal Pops Conductor Jeff Tyzik with assistance from vocalist Doug LaBrecque. Single tickets for this and all RPO 2007-08 season concerts go on sale this Monday, August 27 at 10 a.m.
The harmonia mundi usa release under RPO Principal Pops Conductor Jeff Tyzik and the Van Cliburn award-winning pianist Jon Nakamatsu features the 1925 Piano Concerto in F, the well-known Rhapsody in Blue and the rarely-heard Cuban Overture and is available in a special SACD (Super Audio CD) hi-resolution format. CDs are available for $20 (tax included) at the RPO box office, online at www.rpo.org, and wherever CDs are sold. All purchases, including through the RPO, count toward the Billboard charting.
