RPO Presents Summer Spectacular at SUNY Geneseo

Program to feature American composers, movie themes and fire

Rochester, NY– The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra will perform at SUNY Geneseo (1 College Circle) on Saratoga Field at 8:30 pm on July 7, 2006 (the rain location is in the College’s Wadsworth Auditorium).The annual “Summer Spectacular with Fireworks” concert, under the direction of Michael Butterman (The Louise and Henry Epstein Family Chair), will feature music by renowned American composers including Berstein, Copland, Grofé, Anderson, Rouse and John Williams.

The RPO Summer Spectacular will include Berstein’s Candide Overture as well as Copland’s Billy the Kid. American composer Leroy Anderson, known for light orchestral favorites, will be featured with performances of Horse and Buggy and Chicken Reel. Grofé’s Mississippi Suite and Holcombe’s International Dixieland Jamboree, which includes arrangements of popular American songs such as Bill Bailey, St. James Infirmary and When the Saints Go Marching In, will also be performed. Lowden’s arrangement of the Armed Forces Salute and John Williams’ Raiders March and Superman March will conclude the event.

Tickets for this event are $10 for adults and $5 for children (ages 5-18) in advance or $12 for adults and $6 for children at the gate, and children under 5 years are free. Tickets may be purchased between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday-Friday at the RPO Box Office at 108 East Ave. in Rochester and various locations throughout Geneseo including Central Presbyterian Church, Geneseo United Methodist Church, David Mann’s Jewelers, Noreen’s Hallmark Giftshop and John W. Chanler Agencies in both Livonia and Geneseo.

Celebrating its 83rd season in 2005-06, the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra’s mission is to perform and present a broad range of quality music; attract, entertain and educate audiences with superior musical performances; maintain and build the Orchestra’s national reputation; and enhance the reputation of the Rochester community as a place in which to live, work, play, visit and learn.
