RPO Appoints Three New Members to its Board

Rochester, NY – The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra has appointed three new members to its Board of Directors for three-year terms: Patrick J. Kelly, Gregory W. Smith and Jules L. Smith (not related).

Patrick J. Kelly is a Vice President and Private Client Consultant for U.S. Trust, Bank of America Private Wealth Management division in Rochester.  He joined the bank in 2005, but has been in the banking industry for 18 years in various new business development roles within commercial lending in Connecticut and, since 1999, in New York.  Mr. Kelly graduated with a bachelor’s degree in economics from Yale University, where he was a member of the vocal groups Mixed Company and the celebrated Whiffenpoofs.  He is immediate past-President of the Brighton Chamber of Commerce and is President of the Yale Alumni Corporation of Rochester.

President and COO of Jay Advertising, Gregory W. Smith oversees all agency management, marketing and advertising activities, including new business development, account planning and service, sales promotion and public relations programs.  A founder of Jay Incorporated, his experience in the consumer, industrial, commercial and service industries spans more than 25 years.  His work has been recognized nationwide as well as in the Rochester area, where he was named Communicator of the Year by the Rochester Advertising Federation, and also received the prestigious Lantern Award from the Advertising Council for excellence in community service.  Mr. Smith sits on the boards of several community and philanthropic organizations including American Association of Advertising Agencies Chairman of New York State, Chairman of Mayor Duffy’s Rochester Literacy Movement Branding Committee, and Board member of Rochester Area Community Foundation, Arts and Cultural Council and Rochester Children’s Theater.

Jules L. Smith is a practicing attorney in Blitman & King, LLP with specialties in Labor and Employment Litigation, the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) and Civil Rights Litigation.  Mr. Smith has conducted scores of arbitration hearings throughout the U. S. for various international and local unions, including the American Flint Glass Workers Union and the AFL-CIO, of which he was General Counsel until that union merged with the United Steelworkers of America.  He has authored numerous articles and is in demand as a speaker at conferences throughout the country.  Mr. Smith received both his B.S. and his J.D. from Syracuse University.  He has served as Chairman of the Board of The Legal Connection Inc. (providing legal service referrals to the poor) and Rochester Fights Back (a community anti-drug coalition).  He also served on the board of United Way of Greater Rochester Inc.
