RPO Ensembles Reprise Their Informal Summer In The City Outdoor Neighborhood Concerts

City of Rochester-sponsored free concerts in Swillburg, Park Avenue and Corn Hill neighborhoods

Rochester, NY – As music lovers in neighborhoods throughout the City of Rochester have come to expect, small ensembles from the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra will reprise their free and informal “RPO in the City” outdoor concerts this summer.  Performances will feature a jazz ensemble, a string quartet, brass quintet and marimba ensemble in a variety of classical, popular, jazz and blues music.  “I am pleased that the RPO will once again be offering free concerts in the City,” said Rochester City Mayor Robert J. Duffy.  “I encourage residents and visitors from throughout our community to come out and support our renowned orchestra and celebrate our city this summer.”
 
Concerts are as follows:

  • Friday, July 18; 5:15-6:30 p.m.; Jazz Ensemble at Corn Hill Landing (Exchange Boulevard)
  • Wednesday, July 23; 7-8:15 p.m.; String Quartet at Park Avenue Green; Park Avenue and Barrington Street
  • Wednesday, July 30; 7-8:15 p.m.; Brass Quintet in the Swillburg Neighborhood; Gazebo at Otto Henderberg Square Park on Avon Place 
  • Friday, August 1; 5:30-6:45 p.m.; Marimba Band at Corn Hill Landing (Exchange Boulevard)

Celebrating its 85th season in 2007-08, the RPO inspires and enriches the community through the art of music.  The Orchestra is passionately dedicated to outstanding musical performance at the highest artistic levels, and has a unique tradition of musical versatility, commitment to music education in the broadest sense and a deep and enduring engagement with the community.  The RPO has been honored with the New York State Governor’s Arts Award and two recent ASCAP awards for adventurous programming.  RPO performances are made possible in part by grants from Monroe County; City of Rochester; National Endowment for the Arts; and New York State Council on the Arts, a State Agency.
