Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra's Honor CD Reaches Milestone
August 22, 2008
Sales Top 1,500; Veterans Outreach Center to Receive $3,000
Rochester, NY – The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra’s CD, “HONOR: Portraits of America” has reached a milestone of more than 1,500 units in sales since its public release on May 22, resulting in an upcoming donation of $3,000 to Rochester’s Veterans Outreach Center (VOC), the nation’s oldest community-based outreach center serving veterans and their dependents. Since the CD’s inception, two dollars from each CD (which retails for $20) was earmarked for VOC. “We are truly indebted to Bank of America, Jeff Tyzik and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra for their support,” said Tom Cray, President and CEO of the VOC. “This $3,000 will help ensure our veterans and returning servicemen and women continue to receive the support and assistance they need and deserve.”
In recognition of these efforts, Congresswoman Louise Slaughter sent a congratulatory letter to RPO Board Chair James Boucher. “As a long-time advocate for the arts and one forever indebted to our veterans,” she wrote, “I am delighted by this superb CD and its tribute to our nation’s service men and women.”
“We are proud to send the first proceeds from our HONOR CD to Veterans Outreach Center,” said RPO President & CEO Charles Owens. “Sales continue to be strong and we anticipate many more donations to this important and effective organization.”
Made possible by a $50,000 grant from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation as well as individual donations, “HONOR: Portraits of America” features three works by Tyzik in their recording debuts, plus traditional patriotic favorites. The CD is available for $20 through the RPO Box Office; by phone at 454-2100; online at www.rpo.org; at area Wegmans and Bank of America branches; at STARS & STRIPES, The Flag Store of VOC and other Rochester locations. The CD also will be sold at RPO concerts at Eastman Theatre throughout the season.
