RPO orKIDStra Concert Creates Art With Its Music
March 06, 2009
Next up for “Intersections” is Art and Music in partnership with Memorial Art Gallery
Rochester, NY – It often has been said that music has the power to create pictures and scenes in our imagination. The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra will take advantage of this superb ability with its upcoming orKIDStra concert on Sunday, March 29 at 2:00 pm at the Performance Hall at Hochstein. Conductor Michael Butterman (the Louise and Henry Epstein Family Chair), will treat the audience to the splendid fusion of music and art, as each piece demonstrates music’s ability to “paint a picture.” Selections include Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake Suite, and Grofe’s Grand Canyon Suite, among others.
Special pre-concert activities, which take place at Hochstein from 1:00-1:45 pm, will be presented by staff from the Creative Workshop at the Memorial Art Gallery. Families are encouraged to participate in a variety of hands-on activities to explore and experience the concepts of texture and color.
General admission tickets are $15 for adults; $10 for kids, available online 24/7 at www.rpo.org, by phone (454-2100) and in-person from the RPO Box Office (108 East Avenue). RPO Box Office Hours are 10:00 am-5:00 pm Monday-Saturday (non-concert Saturdays, 10:00 am-3:00 pm).
Although ideal for children of all ages, RPO orKIDStra concerts – sponsored by Wendy’s Restaurants of Rochester – are designed for families with young children ages 3 and up. RPO performances are made possible in part with grants from the National Endowment for the Arts; the New York State Council on the Arts, a State Agency; the State of New York; Monroe County; and the City of Rochester.
