RPO's Musical Gifts to the Geneseo Community Honors Veterans
October 22, 2009
Rochester NY – In recognition of this year’s Veterans Day, the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra presents A Geneseo Salute to Veterans, a free concert on Tuesday, November 10, conducted by Principal Pops Conductor Jeff Tyzik, who will be featured as both conductor and composer. The concert takes place at 8:00 pm in SUNY College’s Wadsworth Auditorium, and is dedicated to the memory of Geneseo’s John Chanler, a Marine veteran. Some of the featured works are from the RPO’s CD HONOR: Portraits of America, which will be for sale at the venue.
Both new and treasured patriotic favorites such as Tyzik’s original Fantasy on American Themes and his Armed Forces Song Medley – both featured on the HONOR CD – add to the spirit of the evening, as well as Sousa’s well-loved Stars and Stripes Forever, and Richard Rodgers’ Victory at Sea – Symphonic Scenario for Orchestra. The RPO will also perform the music from John Williams’ score to The Patriot, “A Call to Worship” from Tyzik’s Pleasant Valley Suite, Copland’s “Variations on a Shaker Melody” from Appalachian Spring, and Amazing Grace, among others.
The RPO would like to recognize and give special thanks to the Chanler Family. This concert is free and open to the public; however, advanced tickets are recommended. Advanced ticket distribution locations include the John W. Chanler Agencies in both Geneseo (128 Main Street) and in Livonia (35 Main Street); at the SUNY Geneseo Special Events office, 105 Erwin Hall, Monday through Friday from 8:00 am - 4:15 pm (585) 245-5500; and at Wadsworth Auditorium prior to concert start. Tickets will be available beginning the last week in October.
