Music Inspires a New “Duet of Cottages” for 2010 RPO Symphony Showhouse
December 11, 2009
Designers to Choose Pieces Performed at RPO Concerts as Inspiration for Design Themes
Rochester, NY – The integration of music and design becomes the centerpiece of the 2010 Symphony Showhouse fundraiser of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, when a duet of cottages serves to showcase the work of 30 area designers putting their personal artistic stamp on a total of 8,500 square feet of living space in two separate premiere houses on one site at the Cottages at Malvern Hill.
The two cottage style “Philharmonics” House and “Pops” House – located next door to one another at Thornell Road and Route 64 in Pittsford and built by Ketmar Development – will pay homage to the RPO’s musical heart. Recordings of approximately 50 pieces performed during the 2008-09 and the current season of RPO Philharmonics and Pops concerts were made available to the designers for their “muse” of choice. Each designer will decorate a room or space in one of the two houses corresponding to the type of music they choose. The RPO’s sixth biennial Symphony Showhouse will run from Saturday, May 22 through Sunday, June 13, 2010.
Although the designers are in their earliest stage, the Strong National Museum of Play already has committed to adorn a children’s play space, and another designer has agreed to feature a fitness room. The RPO Symphony Showhouse is a fundraiser for the orchestra’s education and community engagement programs. Tickets will go on sale in early 2010, and more details will be forthcoming at www.rpo.org/showhouse.
Based in Pittsford, Ketmar Development Corporation is a new home and renovation company which has built hundreds of custom homes in Monroe and Ontario counties since 1988. For more information, visit www.ketmar.com.
