HOLD YOUNG ARTIST AUDITIONS

Prizes Include Five $500 Cash Awards
 and Two $1000 Scholarships


ROCHESTER, NY – The Rochester Philharmonic League is holding its annual Young Artist Auditions for high school students in the Rochester area.  These high school students will audition for professional judges and have the opportunity to win cash prizes and scholarships. 


Five cash awards of $500 are offered for the five category awards that include: male vocalist, female vocalist, strings, piano, and instrumental (woodwind, brass, percussion, harp, or guitar). Two $1,000 scholarships are offered for high school seniors who plan to major in music at an accredited college or university in the 2011-2012 academic year. He/she must be a winner or a runner-up in the Young Artist Auditions years 2011, 2010 or 2009.


Vocal contestants must be high school juniors or seniors. All other awards are open to contestants in grades 10-12. Contestants may not compete for an Award which they have previously won, and must reside or study music in Monroe, Livingston, Orleans, Genesee, Ontario, Wyoming, Yates, Seneca, or Wayne counties.

The Rochester Philharmonic League was founded in 1929 as a support group for the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra.  For more than 80 years, the two organizations have worked closely together to further the common goal of providing great music and music education for the community. The League’s activities focus on educating young people about music and about the RPO, and on fostering the advancement of music talent in the community’s youth.
