February 5 – orKIDStra Features Tubby the Tuba
February 9 & 11 – Valentine’s Romance
February 17 & 18 – Mardi Gras: The Sounds of New Orleans
On Friday and Saturday, February 3 and 4, Principal Pops Conductor Jeff Tyzik leads the RPO in Let’s Dance featuring the choreography of Lindy Hop Champion—and So You Think You Can Dance choreographer—Carla Heiney. Tyzik’s arrangements of some of the most popular dance music will fill Kodak Hall as dancers show their moves throughout the program!
That same weekend, on Sunday, February 5, the orKIDStra Series returns with Tubby the Tuba in the Performance Hall at Hochstein. For the very first time, Tubby the Tuba is coming to Rochester with the musicians taking center stage during the performance.
The weekend before Valentine’s Day, Thursday, February 9 and Saturday, February 11, Music Director Arild Remmereit leads the RPO and violinist Stefan Jackiw in a program of passionate classics: Richard Strauss’ Der Rosenkavalier and Don Juan, Japanese-born composer Karen Tanaka’s Rose Absolute, and Bruch’s Scottish Fantasy. The RPO’s inaugural program in Ithaca, NY can be heard Sunday, February 12 in Ford Hall, Ithaca College.
February’s concerts close with Mardi Gras: The Sounds of New Orleans on Friday and Saturday, February 17 and 18. Jeff Tyzik leads the orchestra in a celebration of Mardi Gras with a salute to Satchmo, and Preservation Hall. The program features double threat Byron Stripling on trumpet and vocals.
