ROCHESTER PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA ANNOUNCES 2012 SUMMER SEASON

 

 RPO to Perform at CMAC, Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre, Performance Hall at Hochstein, and More


 
ROCHESTER, NY – The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) will once again perform Summer Season concerts in Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre, in addition to performances at Constellation Brands–Marvin Sands Performing Arts Center (CMAC) outside Canandaigua, the Performance Hall at Hochstein, several neighborhood venues, and regional concerts from Geneseo to Inlet, NY.  Three Saturday evening performances will bring Broadway Today, A Summer Night with Tchaikovsky, and Disney Live in Concert’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl to the Kodak Hall stage.  In returning to CMAC, the RPO will perform Patriotic Pops and Music of Queen: A Rock and Symphonic Spectacular.  The RPO’s 2012 Summer Season is presented by The Elaine P. and Richard U. Wilson Foundation.


Broadway Today!
, scheduled for Saturday, July 7 at 8 PM, will feature memorable music from the Great White Way, including Anything Goes, Jersey Boys, Jekyll & Hyde, Wicked, Les Misérables, and much more.  Broadway talents Gary Mauer, Tamra Hayden, and Craig Schulman will perform under Jeff Tyzik’s baton.  On Saturday, July 14 at 8 PM, Music Director Arild Remmereit will conduct A Summer Night with Tchaikovsky, featuring two of the composer’s best- loved works, Piano Concerto No. 1 with pianist Joyce Yang and Symphony No. 4.  Finally, on Saturday, July 21 at 7 PM, Disney Live in Concert presents Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl.  The full-length Disney movie starring Johnny Depp will be shown, with live music by the RPO.

The RPO also will return to CMAC, reprising the tradition of Patriotic Pops on Saturday, June 30 at 7:30 PM.  The program, conducted by Michael Butterman, will include Patriotic favorites such as Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture and Sousa’s iconic Stars and Stripes Forever.  Pianist Jeffrey Biegel plays American composer Leroy Anderson’s Piano Concerto, and Robert Russell Bennett’s Suite of Old American Dances stands as a strong representation of American music.  Festive fireworks will follow the concert, weather permitting.  Later, audiences will be on their feet dancing to the Music of Queen: A Rock and Symphonic Spectacular on Saturday, July 28 at 7:30 PM.  Featuring performers from London’s West End, the RPO presents world-famous music from one of the greatest bands of all time.  These concerts, as well as the Saturday, July 14th performance at Kodak Hall, are sponsored by Constellation Brands.

At the Performance Hall at Hochstein, Arild Remmereit and other conductors will present classics such as Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings as part of Summer Serenades at Hochstein.  Additionally, the RPO will perform a number of neighborhood and regional concerts, including performances at Frontier Field (Thursday, July 5), Ontario Beach (Wednesday, June 27), SUNY Geneseo (Friday, July 13), the “overture” to the Nazareth College Arts Center Dance Festival (Thursday, July 12), and two concerts in partnership with the Eastman School of Music: the annual Conducting Institute concert (Thursday, July 26) and the finals concert of the Eastman Young Artists International Piano Competition (Saturday, August 4).
