RPO musicians play at Camp Good Days & Camp Open Arms
Dominion Transmission/Foundation provides funding

Rochester, NY – The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) will be going to camp this summer – performing at both Camp Good Days and Special Times and at Camp Open Arms – thanks to Dominion Transmission, which presented a check for $10,000 to fund the orchestra’s “RPO Goes to Camp” program.

The grant was presented on behalf of the Dominion Foundation, which supports organizations in areas where Dominion has facilities. Under the RPO program, small ensembles visit Camp Good Days and Camp Open Arms and perform concerts.

Camp Good Days and Special Times is dedicated to improving the quality of life for children, adults and families whose lives have been touched by cancer and other life challenges. Camp Open Arms is a program of Gilda’s Club of Rochester, NY, for children touched by cancer or any blood-related disease.

“Dominion and the RPO are honored to help Camp Good Days and Camp Open Arms continue to live up to their good names by providing quality music entertainment to campers and their families during what can be a difficult and uncertain time in their lives,” said Troy Springer, Interstate Marketing Manager for Dominion Transmission, which serves New York state with natural gas interstate pipelines.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for our musicians to perform for children who could not otherwise attend a concert at one of our regular venues,” said Charles Owens, the president and CEO of the RPO.  “We thank Dominion for helping to make a difference in these children’s lives.”

Camp Good Days and Special Times is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for children, adults, and families whose lives have been touched by cancer and other life challenges.  For more information about any of the programs or services; to learn about volunteer opportunities; to make a tax-deductible donation, please call Camp Good Days at 585-624-5555 or visit www.campgooddays.org.

Camp Open Arms takes place every July and it is a two-week day camp for any child touched by cancer or a blood related disease, including sickle cell anemia. Children living with cancer (or blood related disease) or any child who has a family member living with the disease are welcome to attend. Camp Open Arms also welcomes children who have lost a loved one. The camp's main purpose is to provide campers, including those undergoing treatment, with the opportunity for a normal camping experience, and the chance to spend time with their siblings in a fun, interactive way.  For more information, visit gildasclubrochester.org/for-children.

Now in its 90th season, the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra inspires and enriches the community through the art of music.  The Orchestra is passionately dedicated to outstanding musical performance at the highest artistic levels, and has a unique tradition of musical versatility, commitment to music education in the broadest sense and a deep and enduring engagement with the community.   For more information, visit www.rpo.org.
