Colin Corner
Colin Corner

Instrument:  Bass

With the RPO since:  Fall of 2008

Favorite time of year in Rochester:  I really like the summer- the weather is nice and warm.

Hometown:  Indianapolis, Indiana.

What drink are you most likely to order at Java's?  Coffee.

When not performing with the RPO, you can find me playing jazz, drums, organ, piano, bamboo flute, and taking a break from all these instruments by biking, playing golf, and snowboarding!

My first music-related memory is taking piano lessons and NOT enjoying it very much!

I decided to be a professional musician when I heard my first Chicago Symphony concert.

Favorite travel destination:  Amsterdam.

Influential teachers:  Lawrence Hurst, Bruce Bransby, Al Laszlo, Peter Hansen, Bob Goodlett, and I am constantly learning stuff from my colleagues in the RPO

Favorite ice cream flavor:  I like 'em all!

What are your other "hidden" talents?  Jazz (although I try not to keep it hidden - come to my gigs!),  composing, and dabbling around on the electric bass.

Do you teach private students?  I love to teach and I am always looking for students.

What other orchestras have you performed with?  Minnesota Orchestra, Indianapolis Symphony, Vancouver Symphony, Detroit Symphony, and the Louisiana Philharmonic.

What types of music do you like to listen to?  I like to listen to SO many composers, from Bach to Schoenberg, also all kinds of modern jazz from Chick Corea to Sun Ra.

Do you have a pet?  I might be getting a cat soon!

The RPO is essential to Rochester because it provides the city with an unparalleled cultural institution, as well as providing resources and educational opportunities for the next generation of professional classical musicians.

My favorite part of working in the RPO is working with my colleagues in the bass section

If someone were visiting Rochester, what would you tell them to go see or do?  See the RPO, of course!
