Ashley Hill

Hill_Ashley.jpgAshley Hill, mezzo-soprano, is a native of Miami, FL. She received her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Florida International University, and Master of Music in Vocal Performance and Literature from the Eastman School of Music.

While at Eastman, she performed the role of Orfeo in Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice, and was selected to sing in masterclasses for Maestro Willie Anthony Waters and Håkan Hagegård. Hill has also collaborated with composers in the premieres and recordings of their works such as these operas—Liza Seigido’s Lamentos de un Presidiario and Thomas Benjamin’s Chicken Little.

She has participated in voice programs both in the United States and Europe, where she had the privilege of performing in recitals and master classes under artists such as Benita Valente, Victoria Malipiero, Barbara DeMaio Caprilli, and Maestro Marco Balderi. She won the Eastman Concerto Competition in 2010 and was a recipient of the Phyllis Bryn-Julson Award in 2009.

Hill had her debut with the Genesee Valley Orchestra and Chorus as the alto soloist in Handel’s Messiah in December 2010. Most recently, she had her Kodak Hall solo debut singing Ravel’s Shéhérazade with the Eastman Philharmonia. Hill is honored to have her debut with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra tonight as a soloist in Mahler’s Symphony No. 2.
