J. STRAUSS, JR. Light as a Feather
To begin his tenure, Arild Remmereit has selected joyous works from his three musical homes. From his native Norway, the Violin Romance of Johan Svendsen, featuring concertmaster Juliana Athayde. From his musical home, Vienna, exhilarating selections by Johann Strauss, Jr. And now, as he moves to America, Arild presents the “Gaelic” Symphony of Amy Beach. Contemporary with Dvořák’s “New World” Symphony, this masterwork of the late 19th century is too rarely performed, and ushers in a season-long celebration of the contributions of women composers.
