Each year the RPO of
fers performances for 15,000 4th-6th graders at the Eastman Theatre. Students are bused in from all over the Greater Rochester Area to enjoy a one-hour, age-appropriate concert designed to connect orchestral music to the intermediate curriculum. In this way, children learn about music in a cultural and historical context. A committee of teachers develops the RPO's curriculum guides that are distributed to all participants.
This season’s program will feature Lemony Snicket’s The Composer is Dead, based on the popular Lemony Snicket children’s book series, A Series of Unfortunate Events. In The Composer is Dead, writer Daniel Handler (aka Lemony Snicket) and composer Nathaniel Stookey team up to lead young audiences on an investigative stroll through the ranks of the orchestral instruments.
The Intermediate Grade concerts are sponsored by The Cornell-Weinstein Foundation, M&T Bank, and the Marie C. and Joseph C. Wilson Foundation.
