SHOSTAKOVICH Festive Overture
BEETHOVEN Piano Concerto No. 1
ELGAR Symphony No. 1
It is one of Beethoven’s first masterpieces. The youthful First Piano Concerto confirms the young composer’s genius. Pianist John Lill—internationally acclaimed for his performances of Beethoven—will illuminate the music with his unique insight. RPO Conductor Laureate Christopher Seaman returns to conduct the regal First Symphony of Sir Edward Elgar and celebrate his 70th birthday. “I can only write when the spirit moves me,” Elgar once commented. But when he was inspired, his music would move an entire kingdom.
Pre-Concert Chat one hour before the performance.
