Beethoven: Leonore Overture
No. 3
Beethoven: Piano Concerto No. 2
R. Strauss: Ein Heldenleben
From Beethoven’s Leonore Overture to Strauss’ triumphant masterpiece, tonight’s program chronicles the hero’s journey. Ein Heldenleben uses very large orchestral forces, and the autobiographical tone poem traces Strauss’ life, from challenges to conquests. Beethoven created his second piano concerto as a showpiece for his own talents as a pianist – and Stephen Kovacevich takes up the piece with amazing skill and artistry.
Pre-concert chat at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $54, $42, $30, $20.
