Jerzy Semkow continues his 25-year relationship with the RPO with two orchestral masterpieces that showcase the orchestra. Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4 explores the composer’s obsession with fantasy and fate, a piece well suited to the “power and precision [of] the RPO’s playing” (Democrat and Chronicle). Haydn’s Symphony No. 104 is a cornerstone of the orchestral repertoire, and the perfect classical counterpoint to Tchaikovsky’s emotion.
