Schubert: Symphony No. 5
R. Strauss: Horn Concerto No. 1
Copland: Suite from Appalachian Spring (1945)
Rossini: Overture to Semiramide

Tonight, we turn the program “upside down,” starting with Schubert’s elegant Symphony No. 5 and ending with a classic Rossini overture. James Gaffigan, one of the great young American conductors, teams up with Rochester’s own Peter Kurau for Strauss’ first horn concerto – a piece written for his father in a very classical style. This creates the perfect backdrop for the sweet strains of the Simple Gifts tune that Copland features in his beautifully evocative bit of Americana – the suite from Appalachian Spring.

Pre-concert chat at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $54, $42, $30, $20.
