Diamond: Symphony No. 4
Saint-Saëns: Piano Concerto No. 2
Rimsky-Korsakov: Russian Easter Overture
Stravinsky: Suite from The Firebird (1919)
Stravinsky’s Firebird is profoundly Russian – a big, colorful ballet filled with folk tunes and characteristic passion that shows off the instruments of the orchestra. The Saint-Saëns concerto begins with an improvisatory section for solo piano – and Stewart Goodyear is a brilliant pianist known for his unique impressionistic approach to cadenzas, which makes this a perfect match. Conductor Gerard Schwarz is known for his interpretation of David Diamond’s work, and we’re pleased to remember one of Rochester’s own
with Diamond’s thoughtful Symphony No. 4.
