Martha Sholl

Instrument: Bassoon

With the RPO since: 1988

My earliest musical memory is piano lessons in the first grade.

I knew I would make music my career when I was ready to go into law school and realized that, if I wanted to be happy, I had to play music for a living.

Most influential teachers: William Dole, Shirley Curtiss and K. David Van Hoesen

Favorite composer and/or musical period: Brahms

What do you most enjoy about performing? Being ‘in the moment’

What is your favorite part of being a member of the RPO? I love performing.

When I'm not onstage, you might find me on the golf course or in my garden.

I love to dine at The North Side Inn.

My favorite thing about Rochester is the weather in June.

What do you think is the Orchestra's most important role in our community? To bring beauty and to uplift the community’s spirit.
