Hanna Landrum, Principal

Joined the RPO in 2016

An aspiring orchestral musician from an early age, Hanna Landrum joined the RPO in its 2016-17 season as principal second violin. Prior to her appointment with the RPO, Landrum appeared as guest concertmaster of the Youngstown Symphony and Canton Symphony, where she also served as principal second. From 2011 to 2014 she was associate concertmaster of the Firelands Symphony, and has spent several summers as a substitute violinist with the Cleveland Orchestra. Landrum has been featured in both chamber and orchestral performances at festivals across the country, including the National Repertory Orchestra where she served as principal second and also appeared as soloist on both violin and mandolin, and the Brevard Festival where she served as concertmaster in both the Sinfonia and Chamber Orchestras and performed Tchaikovsky’s Souvenir de Florence alongside Cleveland Orchestra concertmaster William Preucil.

A passionate advocate of contemporary music, Landrum has worked with many renowned composers including Shulamit Ran, Robert Patterson, David Dzubay, Keith Fitch, and James Mobberly, and has premiered and recorded multiple new works by young upcoming composers.

A native of Minnesota, Hanna began her musical studies at the age of three and started playing violin at age seven. Before coming to Rochester she studied at the Cleveland Institute of Music where she received both the Dr. Jerome Gross and Jim Hall awards, and from which she earned her bachelor’s and professional studies degrees under the tutelage of David Updegraff and William Preucil.
