Michail Verba

Instrument: Viola

With the RPO since: 1981

My earliest musical memory: hearing Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto on the radio in my native Russia at the age of ten.

I knew I would make music my career when I heard that concerto.

Most influential teachers: Borisovsky at Moscow Conservatory and Rudolf Barchy.

Favorite composers: I love Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky, Brahms and Beethoven.

What do you most enjoy about performing? The excitement - feeling the connection between the orchestra and the audience and the camaraderie among the musicians.

What is your favorite part of being a member of the RPO? The musicians of the RPO are always prepared to make great music. They have great musicianship and discipline.

When I'm not onstage, you might find me in the swimming pool. I'm a Master Swimmer and compete all over New York State.

I love to dine at restaurants that specialize in Japanese cuisine. I also like Siena, Rio Bamba and Red Lobster.

My favorite thing about Rochester is the flowers and the good, clean air.

What do think is the Orchestra's most important role in our community? To educate and inspire people of all ages.
