Elizabeth Seka
Instrument: Viola
With the RPO since: 1967
Hometown: Atlanta, GA
Non-RPO activities and hobbies: Teaching viola students, cooking, gardening, enjoying our two beautiful Maine Coon cats
What music school did you attend, and who were your most inspirational teachers? LSU (Louisiana State University). My most inspiring teacher was William Lincer, who taught much more than just viola technique: the importance and interconnectedness of all art forms, and the meaning that music and art give to one's life.
People would be surprised to know… that I once had a serious Southern drawl
What do you most enjoy about living in the Rochester area? I enjoy the ease of getting around here – the beauty of the countryside, with farmland, rolling hills and lakes close by – the many excellent cultural activities to enjoy – Wegmans – the wonderful musicianship and friendliness of my RPO colleagues.
What are your favorite restaurants in Rochester? Golden Port, Bacco's, Warfield's in Victor
Favorite late-night snack: A glass of wine with cheese and crackers, or a salad, and conversation with my husband
What is your most memorable musical experience? My first memorable musical experience was the summer I spent at Transylvania Music Camp in Brevard, NC. Playing great orchestral music with highly accomplished musicians was an unforgettable thrill, and I decided that I wanted to spend my life in this special atmosphere. Since then, there have been many other wonderful experiences, but this first one made all the others possible.
