Instrument: Oboe
With the RPO since: Fall 2009
Hometown: Lake Orion, MI - A suburb of Detroit
Non-RPO activities and hobbies: I love spending time outside in the sun around a swimming pool during summertime. I also like to cook when I have the time!
What music school did you attend, and who were your most inspirational teachers? I am finishing up my Bachelor of Music degree at the Eastman School of Music. My most inspirational and influential teachers are Richard Killmer and Nancy Ambrose King.
Favorite books/movies: I love all the Harry Potter books and one of my favorite movies is Kill Bill!
And if you had to pick just one, what’s your favorite piece? That is impossible! The program for my first ever orchestra concert was Strauss' Till Eulenspiegels lustige Streiche and Stravinksy's Firebird - those will always be two of my favorites.
People would be surprised to know … I am currently studying American Sign Language at the University of Rochester.
What do you most enjoy about living in the Rochester area? The resources are amazing for music students in Rochester. There is a great music school, a great university, and a fantastic professional orchestra all within reach.
What are your favorite restaurants in Rochester, and why? My favorite meal of the day is breakfast and I love to go to Charlie's Frog Pond for the sautéed banana pancakes.
Favorite late-night snack: A warm brownie with peanut butter, fudge, and ice cream on top ... yikes that answer came a little too easily!
What is your most memorable musical experience? One of my most memorable musical experiences was my first rehearsal with the RPO. We were playing Prokofiev Symphony No. 5 and I couldn't believe how fortunate I was to be sitting right there in the middle of the orchestra.
