What drink you're most likely to order at Java's: espresso or americano

When not performing with the RPO, you can find me... playing chamber music, teaching, reading a good book, watching movies, walking around Rochester with the wife

First music-related memory: hearing classical music on the stereo, seeing the annual New Years Eve concerts from Vienna

I decided to be a professional musician when ... I realized it was my primary outlet of expression and others were merely hobbies

Favorite travel destinations: Boston, Berlin and Colorado

Influential teachers: David Arenz, George Taylor, John Graham, Melissa Matson

Favorite ice cream flavor: cookies n' cream

What are your other "hidden" talents: I'm an astute Bob Dylan fan; I have a degree in German cultural studies; I like to collect things

Do you teach private students? Yes

What other orchestras have you performed with? New World Symphony, Aspen Chamber Symphony

Favorite restaurant in town: 2Vine for the great atmosphere, also Golden Port and Sinbads

What types of music do you like to listen to: '60s folk rock and a plethora of current underground/indie rock

Do you have a pet? One plus-sized four-year-old female cat and a new male kitten to keep her company

The RPO is essential to Rochester because ... it promotes tradition, culture and the affirmation of a community spirit

My favorite part of working in the RPO is ... finally being able to play the great music I've heard all my life, as well as discovering new music

If someone were visiting Rochester, what would you tell them to go see or do? Check out the Little Theatre, the Farmers market on Sat. morning, The Penguin diner for a great breakfast and Highland park for the scenery


Biography

Marc Anderson enjoys a versatile career as an orchestral violist, chamber musician and teacher. Mr. Anderson has been with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra since 2005 and is a member of the RPO Educational Quintet. An avid chamber musician, Mr. Anderson frequently collaborates with his RPO colleagues in many of the area’s classical concert series, such as the Skaneateles Music Festival, Chamber Music Rochester, and First Muse.  Mr. Anderson holds both Bachelors and Masters performance degrees from the Eastman School of Music, where he was the recipient of the coveted Performers Certificate.  Mr. Anderson currently teaches on the string faculty of Roberts Wesleyan College and the Eastman Community Music School.
