About the Young Artist Auditions

For over 50 years, the Rochester Philharmonic League has annually sponsored the Young Artist Auditions. These auditions grant talented high school musicians the chance to perform for professional judges, and to win a variety of awards and scholarships.

Five cash awards of $500 are offered for male vocalist, female vocalist, strings, piano and instrumental (woodwind, brass, percussion, harp or guitar). Two $1,000 scholarships are offered for high school seniors who plan to major in music at an accredited college or university.

Vocal contestants must be in grades 11-12. All other awards are open to contestants in grades 10-12. Contestants may not compete for an Award which they have previously won. Contestants must reside or study music in Monroe, Livingston, Orleans, Genesee, Ontario, Wyoming, Yates, Seneca or Wayne county.

The Rochester Philharmonic League (RPL) was founded in 1929 as a volunteer support group for the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. For more than 80 years, the two organizations have collaborated to further their common goal of providing great music and music education in the greater Rochester community. The League’s current activities focus on educating young people about music and the RPO, and on fostering the development of musical talent in the community’s youth.
