Young Artist Auditions

The Rochester Philharmonic League (RPL) hosts the Young Artist Auditions each spring. High school students perform for professional judges for awards and scholarships. Click here for a listing of the 2008 award winners, along with runners-up and judges.

Five cash awards of $500 were offered for male vocalist, female vocalist, strings, piano and instrumental (woodwind, brass, percussion, harp or guitar). Two $1,000 scholarships were also offered for high school seniors who plan to major in music at an accredited college or university in the 2008-2009 academic year.

Vocal contestants must be in grades 11-12. All other awards are open to contestants in grades 10-12. Contestants may not compete for an Award which they have previously won. Contestants must reside or study music in Monroe, Livingston, Orleans, Genesee, Ontario, Wyoming, Yates, Seneca or Wayne county.

The Rochester Philharmonic League has sponsored the Young Artist Auditions annually since the 1950s. The RPL supports the education and outreach programs of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra.
