Young Artist Auditions
The Rochester Philharmonic League (RPL) will be hosting the annual Young Artist Auditions on Sunday, March 18, 2012, at the Eastman School of Music, 26 Gibbs Street, Rochester. High school students will perform for professional judges for awards and scholarships. The application deadline is Monday, February 20, 2012, at 4:00 pm.
Five cash awards of $500 are offered for male vocalist, female vocalist, strings, piano and instrumental (woodwind, brass, percussion, harp or guitar). Two $1,000 scholarships are also offered for high school seniors who plan to major in music at an accredited college or university in the 2012-2013 academic year. The recipients must be a winner or a runner-up in the Young Artist Auditions years 2012, 2011 or 2010.
A Special Award winner is also chosen during a separate audition of the first-place winners in the five categories. The Special Award winner has the opportunity to audition at a later date for a performance with the RPO.
Vocal contestants must be in grades 11-12. All other awards are open to contestants in grades 10-12. Contestants may not compete for an Award which they have previously won. Contestants must reside or study music in Monroe, Livingston, Orleans, Genesee, Ontario, Wyoming, Yates, Seneca or Wayne county.
Interested students should ask their school or private music teacher for application information, or download a .pdf version of the form. Application forms and repertoire requirements also may be requested from the RPL office by calling 454-7311 x. 254.
For over 50 years, the Rochester Philharmonic League has annually sponsored the Young Artist Auditions. The RPL supports the education and outreach programs of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra.
