Melissa Mashner

Mashner_Melissa.jpgMelissa Mashner is a senior at Brighton High School and a scholarship student at the Eastman Community Music School, where she studies flute with Jan Angus and voice with Patricia Alexander. She recently won the 2010 Greer Award of the Rochester Philharmonic League’s Young Artist Competition, and also was named winner of the League’s Special Award. She also has won awards from the Eastman Community Music School, Finger Lakes Symphony, Jo Amish Young Artist Competition, and Rochester Flute Association. As a sophomore, she was awarded Brighton High School’s Dennis Miller Memorial Scholarship for Visual and Performing Arts.

Mashner has been featured with the Finger Lakes Symphony Orchestra, Penfield Symphony Orchestra, and Eastman Youth Chamber Soloists. She also has performed in a master class with RFA special guest artist Lorna McGhee.  Mashner plays principal flute and piccolo in the Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, is a member of the Krusenstjerna Scholarship Flute Choir at the Eastman Community Music School, and has played in numerous All-State and All-County ensembles. She enjoys playing in the Angelus Trio with her sister on harp and her father on piano.
