Boland School of Irish Dance
The Boland School of Irish Dance opened in Rochester in 1986 under the direction of Barbara Boland, ADCRG (Commission Certified Irish Dance Adjudicator). The focus of the school has been the promotion of Irish culture through the teaching of Ireland’s native dances and music. Students at The Boland School have successfully competed at local, regional, national, and international venues, bringing home hundreds of awards. Members of the troupe have represented the U.S. at the World Championships in Ireland for more than 20 consecutive years and earned top placements at The All-Ireland Championships.
The Boland Dancers are well known throughout Monroe County for their lively performances, delighting audiences at local festivals and venues such as the George Eastman House, the Memorial Art Gallery, The Center at High Falls, Blue Cross Arena, Frontier Field, Strong Museum, and the Hochstein School. They first performed onstage with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra in 1996 and have since been part of many of their Irish programs at Eastman Theatre with Jeff Tyzik and Michael Butterman. Boland dancers have performed with the acclaimed Irish vocal groups The Chieftains and Solas and presented workshops and performances at the Arts Center of Old Forge, N.Y.
Barbara Boland is an internationally certified teacher and adjudicator, registered with the Irish Dancing Commission in Dublin. She is a former regional and national champion, an All- Ireland medalist, and a North American soloist at the World Championships.
