Vail Seems Like a Second Home

Thursday, June 29 18:22

It's a day off for part-time musicians like myself. I'm writing from the lobby of the Vail Racket Club to the tune of happy swimmers in a blue 25-meter pool. I've been housed here at the Club in a one-bedroom condo, generously donated to Bravo Festival by a resident.

There are many things to show off about this condo: unlimited access to the tennis courts, gym and pool, a quiet mountain-side view, a fully-equipped kitchen, skylights and a memory-foam mattress. Like so many arts organizations, Bravo Festival depends on a long list of donors, both private and corporate.

I can see the pride the town takes in these concerts. There are banners overhead and posters in every window. The restaurant owners, many of whom have bought ads in the program books, recognize the musicians and send out a special plate. I'm thankful for this buzz. I feel welcomed, supported and appreciated by this foreign community; it even seems like a second home.
